EPFO 3.0: Date announced for PF withdrawals via UPI! Money will now reach your account in minutes; EPFO offers another gift..
The mere mention of withdrawing PF money often conjures up images of lengthy forms, repeated visits to the company's HR department, and a long wait of 15–20 days. On top of that, there are the hassles associated with EPFO server outages. However, there is now excellent news for millions of salaried employees.
**Withdraw Money via UPI**
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is set to overhaul its entire system and will soon launch 'EPFO 3.0'. Notably, the EPFO has already begun testing a facility for PF withdrawals via UPI. To this end, the organization has initiated the testing process in collaboration with select banks.
**When Will This Facility Be Available?**
According to an exclusive report by Moneycontrol, this facility is expected to launch by the end of December. It is worth noting that testing is currently underway, and the final launch date has yet to be announced. However, once implemented, millions of employees will benefit from this, making the process significantly easier.
**Withdraw PF Money in Minutes**
With the introduction of this new facility, EPFO subscribers will no longer have to wait days to withdraw their PF funds. A key feature is that this new EPFO facility will link the UAN portal to the user's UPI account, potentially making the PF withdrawal process faster and simpler than before.
**Plans for a New App**
Several reports also suggest that the EPFO might launch a new app linked to subscribers' bank accounts. According to these reports, the app could be integrated with BHIM and other UPI apps. The objective is to streamline PF-related tasks and the withdrawal process.
**How Much EPF Can Be Withdrawn via UPI?**
Under current rules, at least 25% of the EPF balance must remain in the subscriber's account. For specific needs—including essential expenses such as education, marriage, and housing—subscribers can withdraw up to 75% of their accumulated EPF balance. The remaining 25% stays in the account and continues to earn tax-free interest. According to sources, the EPFO's total fund stands at approximately ₹26 lakh crore, while the number of active subscribers—or contributing members—is around 7.5 crore.
