EPF: How to update your date of birth and name in your profile? Learn the easiest way..
If you are a member of the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF), you may sometimes need to make changes to your EPF account. These changes could be related to your name, date of birth (DOB), marital status, or citizenship.
Here's a step-by-step guide to the entire process for different situations. By following this guide, you can make changes to your EPFO profile.
1. What changes can be made without uploading documents?
This facility is available only if your UAN (Universal Account Number) was activated before October 1, 2017, and is Aadhaar-verified. If these conditions are met, you can change your name, citizenship, parents' names, marital status, date of joining, and date of leaving without uploading any documents. If the UAN was activated before October 1, 2017, changes can only be made after the Joint Declaration is approved by the employer.
2. Can citizenship be changed?
According to the new EPFO rules, changes to citizenship can only be made in two cases. First, when the citizenship column is blank, and you want to update it to Indian. Second, when you want to change from Indian to international citizenship.
3. What if the UAN is not linked to Aadhaar, or there is no UAN?
In such a situation, you will have to fill out a physical Joint Declaration form and submit it to your employer. The employer will then upload it through their EPFO account and send it to the EPFO. The documents will then reach the EPFO office.
4. What if the company has permanently closed down?
In such a case, the Joint Declaration will require the signature of an authorized person, such as a gazetted officer, notary public, Member of Parliament (MP), postmaster, or village panchayat head. The necessary documents will then need to be submitted to the EPFO office.
