EPFO Medical Advance: Medical emergencies strike without warning. At such times, the biggest concern is often the cost of treatment. To alleviate this worry and provide immediate financial assistance when needed, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has significantly simplified the rules for EPF advances. The EPFO shared this information in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, July 7. Now, if you or a family member falls ill, you can use your PF funds to pay hospital bills without any hassle. This advance is entirely non-refundable, meaning you do not need to pay it back—though it is, after all, your own money.

Certain conditions apply to avail of this facility. Specifically, a membership duration of 12 months (one year) is required. Previously, a long tenure of service was necessary for such advances, but now you become eligible for this withdrawal after completing just 12 months of EPF membership. A key feature of this facility is that there is no fixed limit on the withdrawal amount; consequently, you can avail of this benefit multiple times as needed.

**Funds can also be withdrawn for family medical needs**
This advance withdrawal facility is not limited to your own treatment; you can also apply online to withdraw funds if a family member falls ill. You can apply for funds to cover the treatment of yourself, your spouse, your children, and dependent parents.

To claim the EPF advance, there is no need to make repeated visits to your employer or wait for their approval. If your UAN is activated and your KYC details—specifically your Aadhaar and bank account—are linked to your PF account, you can apply directly online via the EPFO Member Unified Portal.
