After the implementation of GRAP Stage IV in Delhi, only BS-VI vehicles are allowed to operate. You can easily find out whether your vehicle is BS-IV or BS-VI from the RC (Registration Certificate), the transport website, and the label on the vehicle.

Considering the rising and dangerous levels of pollution in Delhi, the national capital, the Delhi government has implemented strict restrictions and rules under GRAP Stage IV to control the Air Quality Index (AQI), which has reached the severe category in Delhi. AQI has been recorded between 400 and 500 in several parts of Delhi, which is very harmful to the health of the residents.

The implementation of GRAP Stage IV has brought several restrictions and prohibitions, the direct and main impact of which is seen on vehicles. Only BS-VI (Bharat Stage-6) emission standard vehicles will be allowed to enter Delhi, and BS-IV, BS-III, or older standard vehicles are completely banned from entering Delhi.

Why are BS-VI standards necessary?

Bharat Stage-VI (BS-VI) standards have been implemented by the Government of India to reduce the toxic fumes emitted by vehicles, thereby reducing pollution. BS-VI vehicles emit less smoke. This keeps the air cleaner and reduces respiratory illnesses. Vehicles with older standards (BS-IV) emitted more harmful gases, which severely damaged vital organs such as the lungs, heart, eyes, and skin.

How to find out if your vehicle is BS-IV or BS-VI?

How can we find out which emission standard our vehicle belongs to, BS-IV or BS-VI, so that it can be driven on the roads of Delhi without restrictions? There are several ways to find this out; let's learn about them.

How to check the emission standard from the RC? To find out if your vehicle is BS-IV or BS-VI emission standard, first check your vehicle's RC (Registration Certificate). Carefully check the 'Emission Norms' or 'Bharat Stage' column on your RC. If it says BS-VI (Bharat Stage-6), then your vehicle is of the BS-VI emission standard.

How to check vehicle information online?

You can also find your vehicle information by visiting the official website of the Transport Department.  You can obtain information by entering your vehicle number and other details.

Identification of BS-VI vehicles

BS-VI or Bharat Stage-6 is an emission standard set by the Government of India, which produces less smoke and pollution compared to the older BS-IV standard. Vehicles registered after April 1, 2020, are generally of the BS-VI or Bharat Stage-6 emission standard.

Where to find the BS-VI label on the vehicle?

Automobile manufacturers place a label or plate on the engine or on the door frame near the driver's seat of their vehicles, which displays 'BS VI'.
