Electricity connection costs to rise from November 1; BPL cardholders' charge increased from ₹100 to ₹150
Rates for new electricity connections in Uttarakhand will change starting November 1. The UERC has raised service line charges for both BPL and general consumers, while simultaneously simplifying the process and offering relief to customers opting for prepaid meters.
Several new rules and changes come into effect on the first of every month. In this sequence, a significant change regarding electricity connections is set to take place in Uttarakhand from November 1. Consumers will now have to pay higher fees for new connections compared to before. Additionally, service line charges have been increased for both BPL and general consumers.
However, the new system simplifies the connection process and offers relief on security deposits for customers opting for prepaid meters. According to the new order by the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC), specific fees for connections have now been fixed. Let us look at the charges applicable under the new rules and who will benefit from the relief measures.
What are the charges for new electricity connections?
For connections up to 4 kW, the service line charge for BPL consumers has increased from ₹100 to ₹150.
General consumers requiring connections up to 4 kW will now have to pay ₹1,400 instead of ₹1,000.
The service line charge for connections ranging from 4 kW to 10 kW has been fixed at ₹3,000.
For connections between 10 kW and 25 kW, the charge will be ₹5,000.
The security deposit has been fixed at ₹600. Additionally, extra security charges will apply based on the specific category.
What are the charges for laying electricity lines?
No fee will be charged to BPL consumers for laying electricity lines up to a distance of 300 meters. For distances exceeding 300 meters, a fee of ₹400 per 10 meters will be charged to BPL consumers.
For standard connections of up to 4 kW, the fee for laying a line up to 300 meters has been fixed at ₹900.
General consumers will be charged ₹2,700 for underground lines.
Rates fixed for transformer installation.
If you need to install a transformer on your premises, you will be required to pay a predetermined fee.
5 kVA transformer: ₹2 lakh
63 kVA transformer: ₹2.75 lakh
Major relief for prepaid meter users
Under these new rules, consumers opting for prepaid connections have been exempted from security charges. No security deposit or additional security charges will be levied on such customers; they will only need to pay the prescribed fee for the prepaid meter.
