In addition to traditional crops like paddy, wheat, or maize, the Bihar government has taken a significant step to increase farmers' income. Under the 'National Bamboo Mission,' the state government is promoting the cultivation of bamboo—often referred to as 'green gold.' Through this government scheme, eligible farmers are provided with a subsidy of up to ₹36,000 per hectare.

The Bihar government has effectively implemented this scheme across 21 selected districts, including Saharsa, Siwan, Banka, Begusarai, Purnia, Muzaffarpur, and Samastipur.

**Terms and Conditions of the 'Green Gold' Scheme**
Under this scheme, farmers cultivating bamboo receive financial assistance of up to ₹36,000 per hectare. To avail of the benefits, a farmer must possess a minimum of 10 decimals and a maximum of 50 decimals of land. Farmers may also lease land for a period of 5 years. By cultivating bamboo within these specified land limits, farmers can qualify for the subsidy.

**Training Provisions for Farmers and Artisans**
To promote bamboo cultivation and scientific farming techniques, the Agriculture Department will provide specialized training to field in-charges, block horticulture officers, agricultural coordinators, and farmer advisors. Furthermore, local artisans and entrepreneurs—who craft items such as baskets, decorative goods, and other products from bamboo—will also receive training. This will enable them to utilize modern techniques to create products for the market, thereby increasing their income.

The primary objective of this government initiative is to foster the development of bamboo-based industries and create new employment opportunities in rural areas, alongside traditional agricultural practices. Interested farmers can contact their nearest Agriculture Department or Horticulture Office to obtain full details regarding the application process.
