E-passports have now been launched in India. An e-passport looks similar to a regular passport, but it has a chip embedded in its cover. This chip contains all the information about the individual. Let's find out how you can apply for it and what documents are required.

But first, let's understand what an e-passport is.

What is an e-Passport?
An e-passport looks just like a regular passport.  A chip is embedded in the cover of the passport. This chip contains the individual's personal information.  This personal information, such as biometric data, fingerprints, and other personal details, is stored digitally on the chip.

It's similar to a regular passport, except for a small golden chip on the bottom of the cover. This indicates that it is an e-passport. The actual chip is located inside the passport.

Anyone can apply for an e-passport, whether they are applying for a new passport or renewing an existing one. However, if this service is not yet available in your city, you cannot apply for it.

How to Apply?
Step 1 - First, you need to visit the official passport website.

Step 2 - If you haven't registered yet, you will need to register first. Existing users can log in directly.

Step 3 - After that, fill in the required information and submit the necessary documents. Then you will need to schedule an appointment at a Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office.

Step 4 -  Your documents will be verified at the Passport Seva Kendra. Finally, your passport will be delivered to your home.
