e-Challan Rules: Received an incorrect e-challan? Don't panic; here is the complete online process to get it cancelled.
e-Challan Rules: If you receive an incorrect e-challan for any reason, there is no need to panic. It is not advisable to pay the challan without verifying the details first; you should investigate the matter before taking action.
e-Challan Rules: Traffic police can issue a challan if a person fails to follow traffic rules. Often, people violate rules thinking that since no traffic police officer is present, they won't be fined.
However, e-challans are now issued using CCTV cameras and speed radar guns installed at various locations. Sometimes, people receive an e-challan that does not actually belong to them or was issued due to a technical error. In such cases, paying the challan without verification is not the right approach; you should first investigate the issue and then take appropriate steps.
File a complaint online
If you have received an incorrect e-challan, you can easily get it cancelled online. First, visit the Ministry of Transport's e-challan portal and file a complaint. Follow these steps:
Visit the portal and enter the vehicle number and challan number.
You will see all the details regarding the challan.
If the challan is incorrect, select the complaint option.
An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number; enter it.
Then, select the reason for the complaint.
Essentially, you need to state that the challan you received is incorrect.
Next, you will need to upload evidence to support your complaint.
This could include a photo of the vehicle, FASTag records, or a picture of the parking area.
After this, submit the complaint.
Note: You will receive a 'Grievance Ticket Number'; keep it safe for future reference.
What to do if the issue is not resolved
If you do not find a resolution on the e-challan portal, the matter may be referred to a virtual court. You can search for your case there using the challan number. Subsequently, you can raise an objection against the challan by providing all the necessary documents and evidence.
Keep a few things in mind:
Do not make the payment if you receive an incorrect challan.
Paying the challan will be construed as an admission of fault.
Ensure you have evidence with you when filing a complaint.
Register your objection within 10 to 15 days of receiving the challan notification.
