Dragon Copilot: A new AI assistant for physicians
Microsoft gave information about this new AI tool in its newsroom post. Citing 2024 data from the American Medical Association (AMA), the company said that the burnout rate among physicians in the US has reached 48%, although it is lower than the 53% rate of the previous year, but Microsoft believes that the increasing workload and documentation responsibilities are taking a toll on physicians.
Dragon Copilot is based on Nuance technology.
To develop Dragon Copilot, Microsoft has used AI technology from Nuance, which the company acquired in 2022. This AI assistant is a combination of two major tools.
Dragon Medical One (DMO): This AI tool provides voice assistants based on natural language.
Dragon Ambient eXperience (DAX): It facilitates environmental data processing by listening to conversations between physicians and patients.
Key Features of Dragon Copilot
Recording conversations: It can record conversations between doctors and patients in multiple languages.
Preparing clinical notes: This AI generates automated clinical notes for doctors by extracting data from medical records.
Creating referral letters and post-visit reports: It can prepare referral letters and post-visit reports of patients in the doctor's preferred style and format.
Providing medical information: This AI can also provide general medical information extracted from reliable sources to healthcare professionals.
