While wireless charging is not considered unsafe, daily usage can cause the heat generated during the process to negatively impact the battery over time. Therefore, it should not be adopted as your primary charging method. You should aim to charge your device using a wired charger as often as possible.

Why Does Wireless Charging Generate Heat?

The charging pad of a wireless charger contains a transmitter coil that generates a magnetic field using alternating current (AC). When a device is placed on this charging pad, its internal receiver coil converts that current into direct current (DC) and transfers it to the battery. However, during this process, the entire power output from the charging pad does not successfully reach the battery; consequently, that unused power is converted into heat. Wireless charging results in a 20–30 percent energy loss, whereas wired charging incurs a loss of only 5 percent. This is the reason why heat is generated during wireless charging.

Keep the following points in mind while using wireless charging:

Always use a high-quality wireless charger.
Avoid gaming or streaming high-quality videos on your phone while it is charging wirelessly.
Remove the protective case from your phone, tablet, or other devices while charging them.
To prolong the battery's lifespan, do not charge it beyond 80 percent.
