Do people living in another state need to get a ration card to receive free rations? Find out what the rules are..
Millions of people move from villages to cities or other states for employment or education. In such cases, migrants often wonder how they can access government-provided free rations while living in a different state—do they need to apply for a new ration card, or can they continue using their existing one? To assist such individuals, the Central Government has implemented the 'One Nation, One Ration Card' (ONORC) scheme.
No need for fresh registration
If you are concerned that you might need to cancel your existing ration card or complete a new registration process to obtain rations in another state, rest assured—that is entirely incorrect. Under the 'One Nation, One Ration Card' scheme, eligible beneficiaries are not required to obtain a new ration card or undergo a separate registration process when moving to another state. You can continue to use your existing, original ration card to access rations in any state across the country.
How to access rations in another state?
The primary requirement for accessing rations seamlessly in another state is that the Aadhaar cards of all family members must be linked to the ration card. Once the Aadhaar details of all members are linked, any member of the family can easily collect rations from any 'Fair Price Shop' (ration shop) located anywhere in the country.
To obtain rations in another state, you simply need to visit a local ration dealer. Your Aadhaar card or thumbprint will be scanned using an Electronic Point of Sale (e-PoS) machine, which facilitates immediate verification. Following this, you will receive your allocated quota of food grains.
There is no need for any paperwork to remove your name from your home state's quota or to update your state registration.
