Cyber Fraud: State Bank of India has once again advised its customers to be vigilant as fraudsters are trying to trap people using new methods these days.
State Bank of India has once again advised its customers to be vigilant as fraudsters are trying to trap people using new methods these days. The bank has explained through an awareness post on social media how people's accounts are being emptied in the name of reward points. The surprising thing is that not only unsuspecting people but also educated and intelligent people easily fall into this trap.
According to SBI, fraudsters usually send messages via SMS or WhatsApp. These messages state that thousands of reward points are in your account and are about to expire. The message urges you to click and redeem them immediately. Many people click on the link, thinking that they shouldn't miss out on the free rewards. This is where the fraud begins.
As soon as a person clicks on the link, they are taken to a fake website that looks exactly like the bank's real site. There, the user is asked to enter their debit card information, CVV number, or other banking details. As soon as this information is entered, the fraudsters gain access to the account, and the money can disappear from the account in just a few moments.
SBI has also explained that it is not difficult to identify fake messages if you pay a little attention. Such messages often have incorrect language, spelling mistakes, or are unnecessarily alarming. The bank has clarified that if a call ever comes from SBI, it is usually from a number starting with 1600. Furthermore, the bank never asks for confidential information via phone, message, or link.
If a customer falls victim to such a fraud, it is important to take immediate action instead of panicking. SBI advises that in such cases, you should immediately call the 1930 helpline number or file a complaint on the cybercrime.gov.in website. Reporting the incident promptly increases the chances of recovering your losses.
The bank has clearly stated that you should avoid clicking on unknown links and never share your OTP, CVV number, UPI PIN, or any other banking-related information with anyone. A little caution can save you from significant financial loss.
