Diwali is just 5 days away—how can you still get a train ticket? Here’s how to travel from Delhi to Bihar.
With Diwali fast approaching, there is a massive scramble for train tickets from Delhi to Bihar. Since there are only a few days left, you might be wondering how you can still secure a ticket to head home. Let’s find out.
As the festival of Diwali draws near, the biggest challenge for those planning to travel home is securing a train ticket. During this period, trains—especially those running from Delhi to Bihar—become extremely crowded, often leaving no space even to sit. Currently, if you look for tickets to travel home, you will find long waiting lists on most trains.
So, the question remains: how can you get home?
Don’t panic! In anticipation of the heavy passenger rush during Diwali and Chhath, the Railways has introduced several special trains. There are also other ways to make the journey home. Let’s explore the options available for traveling from Delhi to Bihar.
Tickets might be available on the Vande Bharat Express.
For passengers traveling to Bihar, the Railways has introduced a ‘Vande Bharat Festival Special’ train between New Delhi and Patna (Train No. 02252). It offers both Chair Car and Executive Chair Car seating.
The train departs from New Delhi at 8:35 AM and arrives in Patna at 9:30 PM. En route, it makes stops at Aligarh, Kanpur Central, Prayagraj, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, Buxar, and Ara. This train will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays until November 25th.
Keep an eye out for special trains.
The Railways has launched several special trains to Bihar for the festive season, departing from both Delhi and Anand Vihar to various cities in Bihar. Opting for one of these ‘festival special’ trains is another viable way to reach your destination. Try the 'Tatkal' Quota
If you are unable to secure a ticket, you can try the 'Tatkal' (urgent) quota. Tatkal tickets can be booked one day prior to the date of travel. Bookings for AC classes begin at 10:00 AM, and for non-AC classes, they start at 11:00 AM. This might just be the way for you to get home.
Search for Nearby Stations
If you cannot find a ticket for a train to your destination, consider checking for tickets to nearby stations. For instance, if you need to travel to Siwan, you could look for tickets to Chhapra, Patna, or Sonpur instead; from there, you can complete the remainder of your journey home.
