Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana for senior citizens over 70 years of age. This scheme will provide free treatment up to ₹5 lakh to all seniors aged 70 and above. The benefits of the Ayushman scheme will be available to all elderly individuals, regardless of their economic status—rich, poor, or middle-class. This is expected to benefit approximately 4.5 crore families with around 6 crore senior citizens.
Separate Health Coverage of ₹5 Lakh for Seniors
If a family already has an Ayushman card holder and there is a senior citizen aged 70 or above, that individual will receive an additional health coverage of up to ₹5 lakh. This means that seniors over 70 can now also obtain an Ayushman card. To benefit from this scheme, beneficiaries must obtain an Ayushman card, which can be presented for free treatment at registered hospitals associated with the scheme.
Many major hospitals across the country are registered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, allowing cashless and paperless treatment at over 29,000 listed hospitals.
