Diwali bonus for these employees in UP; CM Yogi announces they will receive 25% in cash..
There is good news for government employees in Uttar Pradesh. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a Diwali bonus for non-gazetted employees. He made this announcement in Lucknow on Thursday, ahead of the festival. The Yogi Adityanath-led government of UP will provide a bonus of approximately ₹7,000 to these non-gazetted employees.
This bonus is calculated based on a 30-day formula. When calculated against the prescribed minimum wage, the salary for 30 days amounts to ₹6,908.
₹1,727 in cash, the rest into the GPF
Every eligible employee in UP is set to receive a bonus of ₹6,908. Of this, 25% will be paid immediately in cash, while the remaining 75% will be deposited into the General Provident Fund (GPF). The Yogi government has issued an order to grant a 30-day 'ad hoc' bonus to these employees for the 2025-26 financial year. A hybrid formula—combining cash payment and savings—has been established for the disbursement of this bonus. Employees will receive a total bonus equivalent to 30 days' pay, capped at ₹6,908, with 75% of the amount being credited to their GPF accounts.
The 25% portion, amounting to ₹1,727, will be paid out immediately in cash. The remaining ₹5,181 will be deposited into the employees' GPF accounts, effectively contributing to their personal savings.
What about those who are not GPF members?
For employees who are not members of the GPF, the amount will be deposited into a Public Provident Fund (PPF) account. In cases where an employee does not have a PPF account either, the amount will be invested in a National Savings Certificate (NSC)—a scheme offered by the Post Office. 100% Cash for Retired Employees: Employees who have retired after March 31, 2026, or are set to retire by April 30, 2027, will receive the full 100% of their bonus amount in cash.
Benefits for 14.82 Lakh Non-Gazetted Employees
Following approval from Governor Anandiben, Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Finance Department, issued an order regarding the bonus on Thursday. This will benefit approximately 14.82 lakh non-gazetted employees. The government has sanctioned the payment of an 'ad hoc' bonus. Specifically, a maximum monthly emolument limit of ₹7,000 has been set for the purpose of calculating this bonus, based on which employees will receive a benefit of ₹6,908 for the occasion of Diwali.
