Government employees eagerly await their Diwali bonus. While the Central Government has already announced Diwali bonuses for railway staff and other central government employees, several state governments have also declared similar bonuses for their own staff. The latest update comes from Uttarakhand, where the government led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced a Diwali bonus for eligible state government employees.

Approval for a 30-day ad-hoc bonus; payout of Rs 6,908
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved a 30-day ad-hoc bonus for the financial year 2025-26. Under this, eligible employees will receive a maximum bonus of Rs 6,908. The Finance Department has issued an official order in this regard.

This year, the bonus will not be limited to regular employees; it will also extend to work-charged staff. Furthermore, eligible employees in aided educational institutions and local bodies will receive the bonus, as will daily-wage employees who meet the prescribed criteria.

Which employees are eligible for the bonus?
According to the official order, the bonus will be available to Group C and Group D government employees, as well as non-gazetted Group B employees with a grade pay of up to Rs 4,800.

Under the new pay scale, this threshold corresponds to 'Level 8'—covering a salary range of Rs 47,600 to Rs 1,51,100. Consequently, eligible non-gazetted employees falling within this level will also be covered under the bonus scheme.

Which employees will not receive the benefit?
Employees already covered under any other productivity-linked bonus scheme will not be eligible for this ad-hoc bonus. Daily-wage employees must fulfill specific, prescribed conditions to qualify for the bonus. This government decision is expected to bring relief to thousands of state employees ahead of Diwali. Eligible employees will receive an ad-hoc bonus equivalent to 30 days' pay—up to a maximum of ₹6,908—providing them with additional funds for their Diwali shopping.
