Delhi Vidya Vahini Scheme: This Delhi government scheme is specifically designed for female students in Delhi. The government believes that girls often drop out of school due to commuting difficulties.

Delhi Vidya Vahini Scheme: There is excellent news for female students attending government schools in Delhi. The Delhi government has taken a commendable step to facilitate the education of girls and empower them to become self-reliant. The government has launched the 'Vidya Vahini Scheme,' under which approximately 1.40 lakh female students from government schools are being provided with free bicycles.

The first phase of this scheme has already commenced, with bicycles distributed to 3,000 students so far. The remaining eligible students will also receive this benefit soon. Since the announcement of the scheme, students and their parents have had several questions regarding eligibility criteria and the application process. Let us understand the details of this scheme.

Which students are eligible for this scheme?

The Delhi government has established simple terms and conditions to avail the benefits of this scheme. This free bicycle scheme is primarily intended for female students studying in Class 9. Additionally, the student must be a regular student at any government school or government-aided school in Delhi. However, students from private schools are not eligible for this scheme. To avail the benefit, the student must be a permanent resident of Delhi.

How to apply?

Often, availing the benefits of government schemes requires people to make repeated visits to offices or fill out online forms. However, no such action is required for this scheme. Students or their guardians do not need to visit any external website or office to apply for the bicycle. Instead, the school administration and the principal will themselves prepare a list of all eligible Class 9 female students from their school. This list will then be forwarded directly by the school to the Directorate of Education, Delhi, which grants approval for the distribution of the bicycles.

Documents Required for Verification

Even though you do not need to fill out a new form, certain documents will be required for identification and verification when the bicycles are distributed at the school. These include the student's school ID card, the student's Aadhaar card or a Delhi residence proof, and proof of admission to Class 9. The Delhi government has allocated a substantial budget of ₹90 crore for this scheme. The primary objective of the scheme is to assist girls who faced difficulties commuting to school due to the distance from their homes.
