Delhi University (DU) has withdrawn its decision to make Mathematics compulsory in the 12th class for admission to B.Com Honors. Now those students will also be able to take admission in this course, who have not studied Mathematics in 12th. Due to this decision, the doors of B.Com Honors have opened again for many students, who earlier could not take admission in this course due to lack of Mathematics.
This decision was opposed
According to the information, DU had earlier implemented the rule that to get admission in B.Com Honors, it will be necessary to study Mathematics or Applied Mathematics in 12th. After this decision, students and different teachers' organizations opposed it, as it limited the career options of those students who were studying in commerce stream without mathematics. This decision could have harmed thousands of students, due to which student organizations and academics demanded to change it.
DU changed the rules
Delhi University has now implemented new rules, making it possible to take admission in B.Com Honors even without studying mathematics. Now students can appear for the CUET (Common University Entrance Test) exam with any one of the two different subject combinations.
The first combination can be like this
Any one language (like Hindi, English)
Mathematics or Applied Mathematics
Any two other subjects from list B1
The second combination can be like this
Any one language
Accountancy or Book Keeping
Any two other subjects from list B1
