Good news for senior citizens in Delhi—Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a major expansion of the Senior Citizen Financial Assistance Scheme. Starting tomorrow, on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, 50,000 new pensions will be introduced with an allocated budget of ₹149 crore.

Rekha Gupta said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will formally launch the scheme on September 17. The initiative aims to provide financial and emotional support to elderly citizens who are economically weak and in need of assistance.

How to Apply

Eligible senior citizens can apply through the E-District portal, and the entire selection process will remain transparent. The CM also assured that if the number of beneficiaries increases, the government will allocate additional funds without delay.

Gupta emphasized, “Senior citizens are the true heritage of our society. It is our responsibility to ensure that no elderly person feels neglected or helpless. This new pension plan will provide financial relief and emotional security to thousands of families.”

She also appealed to all eligible senior citizens and their families to apply on time so that maximum people can benefit.

Pension Amount Already Increased

Earlier, senior citizens in Delhi received pensions ranging from ₹2,000 to ₹2,500 per month. In March, the pension amount was raised by ₹500. Currently:

  • Citizens aged 60 to 69 years receive ₹2,500 per month (earlier ₹2,000).

  • Citizens aged 70 years and above receive ₹3,000 per month.

With the introduction of 50,000 new pensions, the government aims to strengthen social security and ensure dignity and respect for the elderly in Delhi.
