Delhi-NCR: Reach the airport without stopping—no toll booths! Tax deducted automatically

Plans are underway to implement a Multi-Lane Free-Flow (MLFF) toll system on the Noida International Airport link. This system allows for electronic toll deduction without the need to stop at barriers. The toll itself is not being abolished; instead, the fee will be automatically deducted via FASTag.

If you travel from Delhi-NCR to Noida International Airport, the method of paying tolls may change in the near future. There is a plan to implement an MLFF toll system on the expressway link connecting Noida International Airport to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway corridor. This system eliminates the need for drivers to stop at barriers to pay tolls, as collection will be handled electronically.

The primary objective of this new system is to maintain vehicle speed at toll plazas and facilitate uninterrupted travel. However, this does not mean the toll is being scrapped; rather, vehicles will be identified by cameras, and the toll amount will be automatically deducted from the FASTag.

How will the barrier-free toll system work?

In this system, ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras and sensors installed overhead will identify passing vehicles. Cameras will scan the number plates, and the toll will be collected using FASTag. Consequently, drivers will not need to stop their vehicles or pay cash at a booth to settle the toll.

Removing barriers will help traffic flow continuously.
Toll amounts will be collected electronically via FASTag.
Maintaining a sufficient balance in the FASTag account is essential.

Plan to establish the connection by December

According to reports, the NHAI plans to connect this expressway link to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway by December. There is a plan to open the section from the airport to Mohana once the link construction is complete. However, the December target does not guarantee that the road will definitely open on a specific date that month. Insufficient FASTag balance could lead to complications.

Under the MLFF system, motorists will need to observe certain precautions regarding FASTag:

Keep the FASTag active.
Maintain a sufficient balance in the account.
Affix the FASTag correctly on the vehicle's windscreen.
Ensure the vehicle's number plate is clean and complies with prescribed regulations.
An e-notice may be issued if the payment fails.
If payment is made after 72 hours, the toll charge could be up to double the standard amount.
