Delhi Laxmi Yojana: The Delhi government has formally launched the 'Delhi Laxmi Yojana' to make women in the capital self-reliant. Approval letters for the scheme were distributed to 2,500 women during a grand event held at Talkatora Stadium on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, in the presence of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister described women as the backbone of the family and society, stating that 'Nari Shakti' (women's power) lies at the core of every government scheme.
Who will not be able to avail the benefits of the scheme?
Certain conditions have been set to ensure the scheme's benefits reach only needy families. Families with more than three children or households consuming more than 2,400 units of electricity annually will not be eligible for this scheme. Additionally, for applicants whose forms contain errors or omissions, the government will soon open a correction window on the 'Delhi Laxmi Yojana' portal, allowing them to complete their missing information.
Two easy options to receive the funds
The government has provided beneficiaries with flexible options to receive the scheme's funds:
First Option: Beneficiaries can receive ₹1,000 via Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) and invest the remaining ₹1,500 in a Fixed Deposit (FD) or Recurring Deposit (RD).
Second Option: The entire amount of ₹2,500 can be deposited directly into their FD or RD account as savings.
Funds to be credited directly to accounts starting September 1
Under the scheme, monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500 will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of selected women starting September 1, 2026. The primary objective of this scheme is to provide financial support for daily expenses to women aged 21 to 60 and to strengthen their financial security. So far, 913,495 women have registered for the scheme, of which 652,223 have fully submitted their applications.
