Delhi Laxmi Yojana: ₹2,500 to be provided in two parts; government to facilitate FD or RD investments

Delhi Women’s Scheme: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has launched the registration portal for the Delhi Laxmi Yojana. Here is how eligible women can apply from the comfort of their homes and avail the benefits of the scheme.

Delhi Laxmi Yojana: Saturday was a significant day for the women of Delhi as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the registration portal for the Delhi Laxmi Yojana from the East Delhi District Magistrate (DM) office. With this, the application process for the scheme has officially commenced. Eligible women can now register online by visiting the website dly.delhi.gov.in.

According to the Delhi government, registration for the Delhi Laxmi Yojana has started today. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the Geeta Colony DM office to participate in the registration process for eligible women. Under the scheme, women will receive a monthly sum of ₹2,500; of this, ₹1,500 will be deposited into a Recurring Deposit (RD) or Fixed Deposit (FD) for three years, while ₹1,000 will be transferred to a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)—or ‘Digital Rupee’—wallet. Approximately 17 lakh women are expected to benefit from this government scheme, with the first installment scheduled to be transferred directly to bank accounts on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

What did CM Rekha Gupta say?

During the event, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that a major step has been taken towards fulfilling the promise the Delhi government made to women. She mentioned that under the Delhi Laxmi Yojana, eligible women would receive financial assistance of ₹2,500 per month. This amount will be transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts to ensure they do not face any inconvenience.

Women to receive monthly financial assistance

The Chief Minister emphasized that the scheme is not limited to providing financial aid; its objective is also to make women self-reliant and enable them to live with dignity. She noted that many women are unable to fulfill even their small personal needs due to household responsibilities. In this context, the monthly assistance will prove to be highly beneficial for them. On this occasion, the Chief Minister extended his best wishes to all women and urged those who meet the scheme’s eligibility criteria to register as soon as possible. He also directed officials to ensure the application process is simple and transparent so that no eligible woman faces difficulties in availing the benefits of the scheme.

Government’s Focus on Eligibility and Application Process

According to the Delhi government, the scheme’s benefits will be available only to women who meet the government-stipulated eligibility criteria. Providing necessary documents and accurate information during the application process is mandatory. The government will begin extending benefits to eligible women after verifying their applications.

The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana has been a topic of discussion for a long time. The promise to provide financial assistance to women was a key issue during the assembly elections. Subsequently, the government worked on drafting the scheme’s framework, establishing rules, and setting up the technical infrastructure. Now, with the launch of the portal, the scheme appears to be moving towards actual implementation.

Women Express Happiness; Hope for Early Receipt of Funds

Experts believe that placing financial assistance directly into the hands of women helps meet the family’s daily needs. Such schemes enhance women’s economic participation and reduce their dependence on others for minor expenses. Similar Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes for women are already operational in several states, aiming to financially empower them.

The Delhi government states that it will continue to take such measures for the social and economic empowerment of women. The government claims that the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana will benefit a large number of women and improve their standard of living. Now that the scheme has launched, attention will focus on the speed of the application process and when the financial assistance actually reaches eligible women.

Meanwhile, women who arrived for registration remarked that the government has fulfilled its promise, and they hope the funds will soon start appearing in their accounts. They stated that the money received would not only help manage their households but also provide vital support, enabling them to purchase small items of jewelry for themselves or for their daughters’ weddings.
