Income Tax Refund: If you filed your ITR by July 31, 2026, but haven't received your refund yet, minor errors on your part could be the reason. Find out more.

Income Tax Refund: Most taxpayers likely filed their ITR by July 31, 2026, as that was the deadline. Now, having filed the return, taxpayers are likely awaiting their refunds. While many may have already received the money in their accounts, others might still be waiting. If your refund hasn't arrived yet, do not ignore it; delays can often occur due to specific errors. It is best to understand the reasons why a refund might be delayed.

Refunds may not be processed due to incorrect details.

If there are discrepancies in the details regarding salary, TDS, or other income sources, the return may undergo scrutiny, causing a delay in the refund. Additionally, the refund transfer could fail if the IFSC code or bank account number provided is incorrect.

Failure to link PAN card with bank account

If you haven't linked your PAN card with your bank account, this could be a reason for the non-receipt of your refund. To resolve this, ensure you link your PAN card to your bank account immediately.

Did you verify your ITR?

If you believe the refund will be processed simply after filing the ITR, you are mistaken.
E-verifying the return is a mandatory step.
The Income Tax Department does not begin processing the return until this step is completed.

If there is a discrepancy between the name on your bank account and the name on your PAN card, the bank may reject the refund transfer. Refunds are processed only to accounts where all details are correct.

Outstanding tax dues from a previous period can also cause issues.

If you have outstanding tax dues from a previous assessment year:
The Income Tax Department may deduct the outstanding amount from your current refund.
As a result, you might receive the refund with a delay or get a reduced amount.
