DeepSeek Update: Chinese AI tool banned in this country, Apple and Google removed the app from the App Store..

As much as DeepSeek gained popularity after its launch, it now seems to be in trouble. The whole world is always alert about China, so how can one trust an AI tool? Chinese artificial intelligence tool DeepSeek has been blocked in Italy. Apple and Google have removed the DeepSeek app from their respective app stores in Italy. Ireland's Data Protection Commission has also sought information from DeepSeek regarding the data processing of Irish users.

Last week, DeepSeek launched a free AI assistant, which is said to use less data and operate at a much lower cost than existing services. As of Monday, this assistant overtook US rival ChatGPT in downloads from Apple's App Store, raising concerns among tech stock investors.
"The news of the app's removal came just a few hours ago, I cannot say if it was caused by us or not," Pasquale Stanzione, the head of the Italian data regulator, told news agency ANSA. "Our office will launch a detailed investigation to see whether GDPR rules are being followed," Stanzione said, according to ANSA.
The Italian regulator, known as the "Garante," said on Tuesday it wants to know what personal data is collected, from which sources, for what purpose, on what legal basis, and whether it is stored in China. It has asked DeepSeek and its affiliated companies to respond within 20 days.
Stanzione also said the regulator wants assurances about the protection of the app's minor users, the prevention of bias, and the protection against electoral interference. Apple's App Store showed Italian customers a notice saying "This app is currently not available in your country or region." Meanwhile, a message on the Google App Store said "Downloads are not supported in Italy."
