On November 30, TRAI's deadline to implement traceability guidelines related to the prevention of cyber fraud is ending, after which telecom companies will have to monitor all commercial messages including OTP. After the new rules come into force, there may be a lot of delays in OTP delivery.

Messages of companies not following the rules will be blocked. These new measures aimed at increasing message traceability are part of TRAI's comprehensive initiative to protect consumers from scams and online fraud. Initially, TRAI had directed telecom operators to track messages sent from banks and financial institutions in August 2023, but now the November deadline is also ending and telecom companies are ready to comply, although many major entities (PEs) and telemarketers are still not ready for change.

This move is important to prevent the increasing incidents of cyber fraud, where scammers use fake OTPs to scam. Telecom companies were initially asked to implement these measures. Given a deadline of October 31, they requested more time to ensure compliance. TRAI extended the deadline to November 31, giving operators an additional week to adapt their systems.
