Daughters' Wallet: The government is offering ₹25,000 without requiring any deposit—find out how to avail the full benefit..
The government runs various schemes to support the education and ensure a better future for daughters. One such initiative is the 'Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangla Yojana'. Under this scheme, financial assistance totaling ₹25,000 is provided in stages, covering the period from a daughter's birth through to her higher education. Previously, the assistance amount was ₹15,000, but it was increased to ₹25,000 starting from the 2024-25 financial year.
If you reside in Uttar Pradesh and have a daughter, it is important to be aware of the scheme's eligibility criteria, required documents, and application process. Upon timely application, the financial aid provided by the government is transferred directly to the beneficiary's bank account. Here are all the essential details regarding the scheme.
What is the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangla Yojana?
The Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangla Yojana was launched by the Uttar Pradesh government in October 2019. Its objectives are to encourage the birth of daughters, support the continuation of their education, and mitigate social issues such as child marriage. The financial assistance is not disbursed as a lump sum; instead, it is transferred to the bank account in six installments corresponding to the daughter's age and educational milestones.
When is the financial assistance provided?
A total of ₹25,000 is provided under the scheme across six stages:
₹5,000 upon the birth of the daughter
₹2,000 after the completion of all mandatory vaccinations by the age of one
₹3,000 upon admission to Class 1
₹3,000 upon admission to Class 6
₹5,000 upon admission to Class 9
₹7,000 upon admission to a college, degree program, or a diploma course of at least two years' duration after passing Class 12
Who can avail the benefits of the scheme?
The benefits of this scheme are available only to families who are permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh. The family's annual income must be ₹3 lakh or less. Generally, a maximum of two daughters per family can avail the benefits of this scheme. This amount is transferred directly to the beneficiary's bank account.
However, if twin daughters are born during the second delivery, all three daughters may be granted the benefits of the scheme. Meanwhile, if a family has legally adopted an orphaned girl, the scheme's benefits will be available for a maximum of two daughters—counting both biological and adopted daughters.
What documents are required?
Certain essential documents must be kept ready when applying. These include the family's ration card, family income certificate, Aadhaar cards of the daughter and parents, a photocopy of the bank passbook, and a passport-sized photograph of the daughter. If the girl is adopted, the relevant legal certificate must also be submitted. Additional documents may also be requested depending on the specific stage of the application process.
How to apply online?
Applications for the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana are processed entirely online. To apply, one must visit the official portal of the Department of Women and Child Development and register via the 'Citizen Service Portal.' During registration, details such as the Aadhaar number, mobile number, and other necessary information must be entered. A user ID is generated following OTP verification. Subsequently, one can log in to register the girl and upload the documents required for the relevant stage. Once the application is approved, the financial assistance is transferred to the beneficiary's bank account in installments, in accordance with eligibility criteria.
