Central and state governments run various schemes for the country's women and girls. One such initiative is the Annapurna Scheme. The scheme focuses on financially empowering eligible women in the state by providing them with monthly financial assistance. Under this scheme, women receive ₹3,000 per month. This amount is transferred directly to the beneficiary's Aadhaar-linked bank account via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer); in other words, the funds reach the woman's bank account directly.

Online application facilities for new eligible women under this scheme commenced on June 1, 2026. Meanwhile, existing beneficiaries of the 'Lakshmir Bhandar' scheme are being enrolled in the Annapurna Scheme based on established criteria. However, to avail of the scheme's benefits, specific conditions regarding age, employment status, and income tax filing must be met.

**₹3,000 to be received monthly**
Under the West Bengal government's Annapurna Scheme, eligible women will receive financial assistance of ₹3,000 per month. This money will be deposited into the women's Aadhaar-linked bank accounts via DBT, meaning the beneficiary receives the scheme's funds directly in her bank account.

The government's objective with this scheme is to provide regular financial support to women, helping them meet their daily needs.
**Which women can apply for the scheme?**

To avail of the benefits of this scheme, the applicant must be a woman aged between 25 and 60 years. Additionally, she must not hold a permanent government job that provides a regular salary or pension.

Women receiving a regular salary or pension from the central or state government, government projects, statutory bodies, panchayats, municipalities, or local bodies are not eligible. Women employed in regular teaching or non-teaching roles in state-aided educational institutions are also excluded from the scheme. Furthermore, women who file income tax returns cannot avail of the benefits of the Annapurna Scheme.

**What happens to 'Lakshmir Bhandar' beneficiaries?**

Women currently benefiting from the 'Lakshmir Bhandar' scheme will be migrated to the 'Annapurna' scheme, subject to specific conditions. However, not all existing beneficiaries will be included; names of voters found to be deceased, relocated, removed, or absent during the SIR-2026 process may be excluded. Meanwhile, women who have appealed to the SIR tribunal or applied under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act will continue to receive assistance under the scheme until a decision is reached on their cases.
