DA to Reach 63%; Those with an ₹18,000 Basic Salary to Receive ₹540 More Per Month
If the Dearness Allowance (DA) increases from 60% to 63%, employees with a basic salary of ₹18,000 could receive an additional ₹540 per month. Similarly, those with a basic salary of ₹35,400 would receive an extra ₹1,062. Let’s look at the breakdown of the salary and arrears.
Before Diwali, central government employees and pensioners may receive good news regarding an increase in their DA. Currently, employees receive a DA equivalent to 60% of their basic salary. If the government raises this to 63%, it will lead to a significant increase in their monthly salary.
For instance, employees with a basic salary of ₹18,000 could see an increase of ₹540 per month. However, the government has not yet made an official announcement regarding this hike. Let’s examine the calculations here.
How much will the salary increase if it reaches 63%?
The Dearness Allowance is calculated based on the basic salary. The central government typically adjusts the DA twice a year. Following the hike implemented in January 2026, the current DA rate stands at 60%.
Attention is now focused on the next installment, due from July 2026. Media reports suggest a potential 3% increase. If this happens, the DA will rise from 60% to 63%.
How much will the monthly payout increase?
For an employee with a basic salary of ₹18,000, the current 60% DA amounts to a monthly Dearness Allowance of ₹10,800. If the DA rate increases to 63%, this amount will rise to ₹11,340—meaning an additional ₹540 per month. Let’s look at this in terms of a different basic salary—

Will there be an 'arrear' if it is implemented from July?
Central government employees are awaiting their arrears. If the government implements the DA (Dearness Allowance) hike effective from July 1, 2026, employees may also receive the arrears for the increased DA starting from July. For instance, an employee with a basic salary of ₹18,000 would receive an additional ₹540 per month based on a 3% hike. Consequently, if arrears for 3 months accumulate, the total amount would be ₹1,620.
