DA Hike News: Questions were being raised for a long time regarding the 18-month arrears of DA (Dearness Allowance) and DR (Dearness Relief) of central employees and pensioners during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now the central government has responded to this.

Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary recently told the Parliament that due to COVID-19, there was a lot of pressure on the country's economy. Due to this, the government had decided to stop three installments of DA and DR (DA / DR Hike) to be implemented from January 1, 2020, July 1, 2020, and January 1, 2021. Its purpose was to reduce the pressure on the government treasury.

The minister also made it clear that now the economic condition of the country is much better than before. While the country's fiscal deficit was 9.2 percent in the financial year 2020-21, it has come down to 4.4 percent in the budget estimate for 2025-26. That is, the financial condition of the government is now improving, and it is not on the verge of bankruptcy.

Now have to wait more...

However, on the question of DA and DR arrears, the government clearly said that the economic impact of COVID-19 remained even after 2020-21. During this time, the government spent heavily on many welfare schemes, due to which there was pressure on financial resources.

For this reason, the decision to give DA and DR arrears for 18 months was not considered possible at the moment. This means that employees and pensioners may have to wait for these arrears.

Lakhs of employees were expecting.
This answer of the central government may be disappointing for those lakhs of employees and pensioners who were expecting their rights for a long time. However, the government did not say that the arrears will never be received, but no fixed time limit has been given yet. Employee organizations are expecting further talks with the government on this issue.
