DA hike news: Government employees of this state will get 12% hike in dearness allowance before Holi 2025; see details

Ahead of Holi 2025, Maharashtra government employees got a good news on Tuesday. The state government has issued an order to increase the dearness allowance (DA) of its employees by 12 per cent under the unchanged pay scale of the 5th Pay Commission, which will be effective from July 1, 2024. Around 17 lakh employees are expected to benefit from the DA hike, an official of the state finance department said.
Maharashtra DA hike
After the 12 percent hike, the state will now get a 455 per cent dearness allowance. Earlier it was 443 percent. According to the government resolution (GR), the revised DA will be paid in cash along with the salary of February 2025, including arrears from July 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025.
The GR states that the existing procedures and provisions regarding DA distribution will continue to apply in the future as well. The order states that the expenditure on the revised DA will be met from the budgetary provisions allocated under the respective pay and allowances head for government employees. The expenditure for grant-in-aid institutions and Zila Parishad employees will be booked under the specified sub-heads for their financial assistance.
8th Pay Commission
The Union Cabinet approved the 8th Pay Commission in January 2025. However, its members and chairman are yet to be finalized. The central government had sought suggestions from the National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) for the Terms of Reference (TOR) of the 8th Pay Commission. The salaries of central government employees are likely to increase substantially after the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission.
