DA Hike Delay: Decision on Dearness Allowance Stalls—Has the 8th Pay Commission Put the Brakes on It? Find Out Here

DA Hike 2026: Nine full days have passed since the start of April, yet Central Government employees are still waiting for their Dearness Allowance (DA).

Employees working for the Central Government are still awaiting their DA. The month of April 2026 is already well underway, but there has been no update from the government regarding this matter so far. Consequently, an atmosphere of considerable anxiety prevails among the employees. Since the Ministry of Finance implemented the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission in June 2016, there has never been such a significant delay in announcing a Dearness Allowance hike. This marks the first time such a delay has occurred; naturally, it is understandable that the employees are concerned.

Has the 8th Pay Commission Put the Brakes on It?

There is currently a buzz of speculation among employees awaiting their Dearness Allowance (DA). Due to the significant delay in the announcement, there is speculation that the declaration might be on hold pending the meeting of the 8th Pay Commission. Specifically, a meeting of the Drafting Committee of the National Council (Joint Consultative Machinery) is scheduled for April 13, 2026. This meeting is intended to discuss the final proposal to be submitted to the 8th Pay Commission. Consequently, it is being speculated that the Commission may currently be waiting for this specific meeting to conclude, and that the announcement regarding the salary hike will be made only thereafter.

When Were Announcements Made in the Past?

According to records from the Ministry of Finance, in 2025, the government's proposal for a DA hike was tabled on March 28, 2025. This was followed by the official announcement on April 2. Similarly, in 2024, the government officially announced the hike in Dearness Allowance on April 3. Even during the COVID period, the government had frozen the Dearness Allowance at 17% between October 14, 2019, and July 20, 2021, for which an order was issued on April 23, 2020.
