Cyber Attacks: India at the center of cyber attacks, from IT to telecom sector in danger, 13% devices affected..

India has now become the biggest target of cyber attacks in the world. According to the Cyberthreats Report 2025 of Swiss cybersecurity company Acronis, 12.4% of India's Windows devices were found to be affected by malware in May 2025. In June, this figure increased further to 13.2%, which is the highest globally.
The report states that India's digital ecosystem is facing a situation like a "perfect storm", in which many dangerous factors are working together. The biggest threat in this is malware, which is a software that infiltrates a computer or network and disrupts operations.
Increased attacks on businesses
A large part of cyber attacks is related to business email compromise. According to the report, attacks on official emails increased from 20% in early 2024 to 25.6% in the first half of 2025. Cybercriminals are now using AI tools to create fake emails, invoices, and even deepfake scams, which are extremely difficult to identify.
According to cybersecurity experts, the hybrid work model since COVID-19 has made companies vulnerable. Insecure remote setups on public internet networks have become the easiest targets.
The IT and telecom sector is at risk
The report said that the manufacturing, IT services, and telecom sectors are most at risk in India. Cybercriminals are increasing attacks through ransomware cartels such as Cl0p, Akira, and Qilin. Also, trusted software such as remote management tools is being used as weapons to spread malware. In ransomware attacks, criminals lock systems and files and demand a ransom to get them back.
The report warns that relying only on prevention is no longer enough. Companies will have to focus on resilience and rapid recovery, as India has now become the biggest hotspot of global cyber threats.
