Confirm Ticket Scam: Claims of securing a confirmed train ticket? Know the facts first to avoid falling victim to fraud.
Train Ticket Scam: If you travel by train, be aware that cyber fraud is currently taking place under the guise of securing confirmed tickets. To protect yourself, it is important to know a few key facts beforehand.
Train Ticket Scam: While train travel is enjoyable, securing a confirmed ticket can be a major hassle. Many people book tickets months in advance yet still fail to get a confirmed seat. In such situations, some individuals claim they can quickly arrange a confirmed ticket, and travelers—hoping for a seat—often agree to pay extra. If you receive such a call or message, do not mistake it for the truth; it could be a cyber scam.
How does the scam work?
The most important thing to know is that Indian Railways or IRCTC never offers to confirm a waitlisted ticket in exchange for money via phone calls or messages. If someone claims via call or message that they can get you a confirmed ticket for an extra fee, do not trust them at all.
Keep these points in mind:
Never trust an unknown number.
Do not send money to anyone via UPI or any other method.
Do not click on any links sent to you claiming to confirm a ticket.
Never share your banking or personal details with anyone.
Do not believe a screenshot of a confirmed ticket sent to you via WhatsApp.
Always book your tickets directly through the official IRCTC website.
What to do if you are scammed:
If you accidentally fall victim to a ticket scam, call the cyber helpline number 1930 immediately without wasting any time. You can also file a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Portal. Additionally, inform your bank as soon as possible and have the transaction blocked.
