New LPG Cylinder Rules (Effective October 2026): Significant changes regarding the price, booking, and subsidy rules for LPG cylinders are set to take effect nationwide starting October 1, 2026. According to new regulations issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, completing biometric e-KYC is now mandatory to avail the subsidized rate—specifically, the ₹210 subsidy—on cylinders. Previously, on September 7, a minimum gap of 25 days between two cylinder bookings was also mandated. If you are a consumer of Indane, HP Gas, or Bharat Gas, it is crucial for you to be aware of these new rules.

Four major changes regarding LPG coming into effect from October 1:
**Mandatory Biometric Aadhaar Authentication**
Under the new government order, biometric Aadhaar authentication is now required to avail government subsidies. Consequently, the ₹210 government subsidy per cylinder will be withheld for customers who have not completed the e-KYC process; such consumers will have to purchase gas cylinder refills at the market price. However, there is some relief: the gas connection will not be cancelled, and cylinder deliveries will continue even if e-KYC is not completed. Approximately 89.9% of consumers across the country have already completed this verification and do not need to repeat the process.

**New LPG Cylinder Prices to be Announced**
Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) determine gas cylinder prices on the first of every month based on international crude oil rates. Accordingly, revised rates for domestic and commercial LPG cylinders will be announced on October 1. Prior to this, the government had also amended the rules regarding the time interval between two cylinder bookings on September 7. Now, all urban and rural consumers across the country will be able to book their next refill only after 25 days have elapsed since the delivery of the previous cylinder. Previously, this timeframe was 45 days for rural areas; it has now been reduced to a uniform 25 days across the country.

**Curbing commercial misuse and fake connections**
The primary objective of implementing biometric e-KYC is to prevent the commercial use of subsidized domestic cylinders in establishments such as hotels, *dhabas* (roadside eateries), and industrial units. This will help identify and block duplicate connections operating under the same name or using fake Aadhaar details.

Consumers can check the status of their connection and e-KYC by visiting the official websites of their gas distributors (such as Indane, HP, or Bharat Gas) or the central government's official portal, MyLPG.in.
