CNG Rules: No Gas Supply if Hydro Test or Compliance Plate Has Expired

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has increased CNG prices by ₹3.89 today. If you use a CNG vehicle, this news is important for you. Before heading to a station to refuel, you should check certain essentials; otherwise, your vehicle will not be filled with CNG at the pump. Therefore, being aware of this beforehand is crucial.

A notice board displayed by Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) states that CNG will not be filled if the hydro test or compliance plate has expired. Consequently, you should verify these details before attempting to refuel.

Why is the hydro test necessary?

If your vehicle runs on CNG, undergoing a hydro test is mandatory. This test assesses the structural integrity of pressure-bearing components—such as the cylinder, pipes, and gas tank—and checks for potential gas leaks. Essentially, it is conducted to ensure the safety of the CNG cylinder. If your vehicle's hydro test has expired, it will not be refueled. Please note that the CNG cylinder must undergo a hydro test every three years.

What is a compliance plate?

A compliance plate is a plate installed on CNG vehicles that indicates whether the CNG kit and cylinder meet safety regulations. It also displays key details regarding the vehicle, including:

Information regarding the hydro test date.
The date the CNG kit was installed.
Details such as the cylinder number.
You must have a valid compliance plate when going to refuel with CNG.
