CM Yogi's gift to students before Holi increases scholarships for classes 9 and 10
The Yogi government has increased the scholarship amount for classes 9 and 10. Students from backward classes will now receive a scholarship of ₹3,000. Narendra Kashyap, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Backward Classes Welfare and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, credited the Chief Minister with the scholarship increase. Thirty-eight lakh students in the state will now benefit from this major scheme. This government decision will greatly help children from economically disadvantaged families continue their education. Previously, students from backward classes studying in classes 9 and 10 received ₹2,250, which has now been increased to ₹3,000.
"Not a single eligible student in the state will be deprived of scholarships from 2023-24."
Narendra Kashyap, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Backward Classes Welfare and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, stated that under the Scholarship and Fee Reimbursement Scheme of the Backward Classes Welfare Department, not a single eligible student in the state has been deprived of scholarships since 2023-24. This is the first time in the state's history. He said that previously, scholarship distribution used to take place on March 31st, the last day of the financial year. However, the Yogi government changed the system and started scholarship distribution from September 25th in 2025. So far, scholarships have been distributed ahead of schedule to approximately 20 lakh students.
Parental Income Limit Also Increased
He also informed that due to the Chief Minister's decision, the parental income limit for scholarships has been increased from Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 2.5 lakh, allowing more students to benefit. It has also been announced that the scholarship amount for pre-metric students will be increased from ₹2,250 to ₹3,000. Approximately 3.8 million students are expected to benefit from this scheme in 2026-27.
Increase in Disability Pension Amount
Highlighting the achievements of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Minister Kashyap stated that the disability pension amount will be increased from ₹1,000 per month to ₹1,500 per month. He added that prior to 2017, this amount was only ₹300, which the Yogi government has now increased fivefold in a phased manner. More than ₹1,400 crore has been allocated for the pension fund.
A new ₹60 crore scheme has been launched for the convenience of disabled girl students, under which e-tricycles will be provided to them. Additionally, schemes for the distribution of prosthetic limbs, assistive devices, and motorized tricycles will continue as before.
He said that the University for the Disabled in Chitrakoot, estimated to cost approximately ₹500 crore, has now come under the state government's control. This will provide a new direction to the higher education and intellectual empowerment of persons with disabilities in the state.
