There's big news for farmers in Uttar Pradesh. The Yogi government is preparing to make major changes to the Chief Minister's Farmer Accident Welfare Scheme. After these changes, families will no longer have to visit government offices in case of an unfortunate incident. They will receive compensation of up to ₹5 lakh directly at home. Following the new changes, the scheme is being completely digitized. The Revenue Council is working rapidly on the digitization of the scheme.

This work will be completed by February 2026. After digitization, farmers or their families will not have to visit government offices to apply under the Farmer Accident Welfare Scheme. In case of death or accident, the compensation will be directly transferred to their bank account. Under this scheme, if a farmer is involved in an accident, they or their family receive compensation of up to ₹5 lakh from the government. Currently, the application process involves several steps, requiring visits to the Tehsil or District office for verification. However, the entire process is now being moved online. This includes everything from filling out the form and uploading documents to verification, approval, and the transfer of money to the bank account – all will be done online.

What is the Farmer Accident Welfare Scheme?
The Yogi government launched the Chief Minister's Farmer Accident Welfare Scheme in 2019. This scheme provides for appropriate compensation to farmers in case of accidents during farming activities. If the accident results in the death or disability of the farmer, compensation of up to ₹5 lakh is provided. As of December 2025, 29,394 farmer applications have been approved. Assistance ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh
₹5 lakh compensation in case of the farmer's death
₹5 lakh for the loss of both hands and feet
₹2 to ₹3 lakh for the loss of one hand and one foot
Assistance between ₹1 lakh and ₹2 lakh for disability greater than 25% but less than 50%
₹5 lakh compensation for eye injury

Farmers can receive compensation for these accidents:
Accidents due to falling trees
Landslides
Accidents during travel
Lightning strike
Washed away in floods
Animal bites
Electrocution
Burns in a fire
House collapse
Terrorist attack
Accident during a fight
Falling in a room and being murder during a robbery

Portal under development
An advanced web portal and software are being developed with the help of NIC to digitize the Farmer Accident Welfare Scheme. After applying on this portal, farmers will also be able to track the status of their application. Moreover, the money will be directly credited to their accounts through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer). The administration believes that this will increase transparency and ensure that no eligible farmer is deprived of the benefits. According to experts, this initiative is a significant step towards advancing the goals of Digital India and e-governance. It will also help in providing relief to the rural economy and protecting the rights of farmers.
