Claim your share of the ₹78,000 crore lying unclaimed in banks today; Prime Minister Modi himself has made the appeal..
Millions of people across the country are now receiving their forgotten money back. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that under the government's "Your Money, Your Right" initiative, approximately ₹2,000 crore has been returned to its rightful owners since October 2025. This campaign was launched to return lost savings and financial assets to citizens whose accounts, policies, or investments had remained unclaimed for years.
Why is the "Your Money, Your Right" initiative necessary?
A significant amount of money belonging to people remains unclaimed in bank accounts, insurance policies, dividends, mutual funds, and shares across the country. Often, people forget where their money is invested, or funds remain unclaimed due to a lack of information after the death of family members. PM Modi stated that this money is not just a statistic, but the hard-earned savings of millions of families.
How much money is lying unclaimed?
Government figures are startling. Approximately ₹78,000 crore is lying unclaimed in banks. Around ₹14,000 crore is unclaimed with insurance companies, and approximately ₹3,000 crore is unclaimed with mutual fund companies. In addition, about ₹9,000 crore in dividends has remained unclaimed for years. This is people's hard-earned money, which the government is now actively working to return.
The government launches several user-friendly portals.
To ensure that people's money is returned to them, various regulatory bodies have created special portals:
RBI's UDGAM portal – for unclaimed bank deposits
IRDAI's Bima Bharosa portal – to check for unclaimed amounts from old/forgotten insurance policies
SEBI's MITRA portal – for unclaimed funds related to mutual funds and securities
MCA's IEPFA portal – to claim dividends, shares, and old investments
With the help of these portals, citizens can now find out in just a few minutes if they have any old money lying unclaimed. 477 Facilitation Camps Set Up Across the Country
477 camps have been set up in both rural and urban areas, especially in remote regions, to assist people. Here, officials help people locate and claim their unclaimed funds. The joint efforts of the government, RBI, IRDAI, SEBI, and banks have so far helped people recover approximately ₹2,000 crore.
PM Modi's Appeal – ‘Claim What Is Rightfully Yours’
PM Modi said that this is not just a campaign to return money, but a step towards a financially empowered India. He appealed to people to check if they or any member of their family has any old deposits that have been left unclaimed. He said that what belongs to you should be returned to you.
