CJP Protest: Railways cancels over 250 trains; all Mail-Express services affected
In the national capital, the New Delhi and Nizamuddin railway stations will remain closed until 2 PM today. In view of the CJP protest, the Railways has cancelled more than 250 trains for the day.
Indian Railways has taken strict measures due to the CJP protest and security arrangements in Delhi. More than 250 Mail and Express trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi (NDLS) and Hazrat Nizamuddin (NZM) railway stations between 4 AM and 2 PM on October 10 have been cancelled.
Railway officials stated that this decision was taken as a precautionary measure to prevent overcrowding and potential traffic congestion in the national capital. The operations of several key trains originating from earlier stations have also been affected; consequently, passengers are advised to check the status of their trains before travelling.
Over 250 trains cancelled
The Railways initially reported the cancellation of 38 Mail and Express trains, a figure later raised to 45. Subsequently, in another update, the Railways cancelled 40 trains arriving in Delhi and 35 departing from the city. However, by evening, Northern Railway revised the total count of cancelled trains—comprising Mail, Express, and local services—to over 250.
Local trains also cancelled
Along with trains departing from New Delhi and Nizamuddin railway stations, local train services have also been cancelled. The Railways and the government are facing severe criticism for the inconvenience caused to thousands of passengers due to this move. Trains bound for Delhi from Sonipat were cancelled this morning. The administration is exercising extreme caution in light of the protest. Railway experts state that while trains have been cancelled in the country due to agitations in the past, never before have so many trains been cancelled simultaneously. This mass cancellation has caused immense inconvenience to thousands of passengers, many of whom would have been travelling for urgent medical reasons, work, or family functions.
