The people of Punjab are set to receive a New Year's gift from the state government. From January 2026, people in Punjab will receive free medical treatment worth not 5 but 10 lakh rupees. The 'Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme' was approved on Thursday, December 25th.

Under the Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme, every family in Punjab will receive free medical coverage up to Rs. 10 lakh. Reviewing a meeting of the Health Department, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the objective of this scheme is to ensure healthcare services for all and reduce the financial burden on the people. Punjab will be the first state in the country where every family will be entitled to cashless treatment up to Rs. 10 lakh.

Where will free treatment be available?
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that this flagship scheme will provide all residents with financial security and assured access to quality healthcare. Services under the scheme will be available at empanelled government and private hospitals in Punjab and Chandigarh. This will include treatment for major illnesses, intensive care, surgeries, and life-saving treatments.

When will registrations begin, and how can I get the card?
According to the information, registrations for the Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme will begin from January 8th. To register for the Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme, you must have a Punjab Aadhaar card or Voter ID. You can get this health card made at your nearest Common Service Center (CSC).

Pre and Post-Hospitalization Cover
The good news is that this scheme will also provide pre- and post-hospitalization cover. Hospitalization, surgery, ICU, treatment, and medicines will all be included in this scheme. Treatment before and after hospitalization will also be covered. The related expenses will be included in the scheme under approved packages.

Eligibility for the Chief Minister's Health Scheme
The Chief Minister said that the treatment limit has been increased from five lakh rupees to 10 lakh rupees. He said that all residents of Punjab, including government employees and pensioners, have been included in the eligible category under this scheme. No income limit has been set for this. This means that every family in Punjab will benefit from this scheme, regardless of their income. However, permanent residency in Punjab is mandatory.
