Your CIBIL score plays a crucial role when taking out a loan for a home, car, phone, or laptop. You do not need to go anywhere to check your CIBIL score; it can be viewed online from the comfort of your home.

Nowadays, obtaining a loan to purchase a home, car, phone, or laptop has become easier than before. Most banks offer easy EMI options, allowing you to pay for major purchases in installments rather than bearing the entire cost upfront. However, several factors influence loan approval and the applicable interest rate. These include the bank's set interest rates, your CIBIL score, income, employer, loan type, and existing loan policies. The CIBIL score helps banks assess an individual's loan repayment capacity. Consequently, knowing your CIBIL score before applying for a loan is highly beneficial. Since it can be checked online from home, let’s explore the easy ways to do so.

The CIBIL score is calculated on a scale of 900 points and impacts your loan eligibility. However, the actual loan amount sanctioned depends on the bank's risk appetite. Loan agents also use the CIBIL score to determine the interest rate applicable to your loan.

If your CIBIL score is low, identifying this early can be advantageous. It gives you time to improve your score by paying off existing EMIs on or before their due dates. Checking your CIBIL score can also help detect fraud; for instance, it can alert you if a loan has been taken out in your name without your knowledge.

There are several ways to check your CIBIL score, and you are entitled to one free report per calendar year. You can use the TransUnion CIBIL online portal for this purpose. While a subscription is required for a detailed CIBIL report, you can check your CIBIL score for free on the portal. Additionally, you can check your CIBIL score using apps like Google Pay and Cred.

To check via the TransUnion CIBIL portal, first visit the TransUnion CIBIL online portal and select the "Get Free CIBIL Score & Report" option. Next, enter details such as your email address, mobile number, password, first name, last name, ID proof type, ID number, date of birth, and PIN code. For ID proof, you can provide details from a PAN card, passport, voter ID, driver's license, or ration card. After agreeing to the terms and conditions, click on "Accept and Continue." Your latest CIBIL score will then appear on the screen.

Open Google Pay on your phone and scroll down the homepage. Click on the "Check your CIBIL score for free" option. Then, tap the "Check" button next to the CIBIL score section and follow the on-screen instructions.

Open the Cred app on your phone and click on the "Credit Score" option on the homepage. If you provided consent during the initial account setup, the app will already have access to your credit details, so you will not need to re-enter your personal information. You can then check your latest CIBIL score by tapping the refresh button.
