Will petrol and diesel prices rise?

While crude oil prices are indeed rising due to tensions in West Asia, government sources have confirmed that there are currently no plans to increase petrol and diesel prices. Given the potential for volatility in global crude oil prices, the government is prioritizing energy security. To this end, oil marketing companies may be provided with subsidies; this would allow them to absorb price pressures and maintain profit margins, thereby shielding the general public from the impact of global price hikes. To counter supply disruptions caused by the conflict between Iran and the US, the purchase of crude oil from Russia has continued uninterrupted. Plans are also being made to procure oil from Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Currently, oil marketing companies are incurring losses (under-recoveries) of ₹20–25 per litre on diesel and ₹5–10 per litre on petrol.
