E-Aadhaar App: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is now going to launch a new QR code-based e-Aadhaar system across the country, which will be launched by the end of 2025. With the help of this system, Aadhaar cardholders will be able to verify their identity digitally without any physical photocopy.
According to UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar, out of the one lakh Aadhaar authentication devices currently present across the country, about 2,000 have been updated for QR support. After this, identity verification can be done with just one QR scan, making the whole process faster and simpler.
Update details from home with the e-Aadhaar mobile app
UIDAI will also soon launch a new Aadhaar mobile app so that users can update their personal information like name, address, and date of birth directly from their mobile. Now there will be no need to go to Aadhaar service centers for these tasks. This app will also relieve users from the hassle of giving physical copies of documents, and the entire update process will become paperless and convenient.
New rules will come into effect from November 2025
According to UIDAI, from November 2025, one will have to go to Aadhaar service centers only for biometric updates (such as fingerprint and iris scan). All other changes like name, address, date of birth etc. can be done from the app itself. Along with this, UIDAI is working on a system that will authenticate the information of users directly from the government database. These can include birth certificate, PAN card, passport, driving license, ration card, MNREGA records and electricity bill.
Identity security will be strengthened
This new system will not only increase convenience, but will also reduce cases of identity fraud. QR based verification is currently being tested as a pilot project in some sub-registrar offices and the hotel industry to find out how safe and effective this system is. In this, the user's information will be shared only when he gives explicit consent so that privacy can also be completely protected.
Special attention is also being paid to updating Aadhaar of children
UIDAI is now also running a biometric update campaign for school children. Under this, in collaboration with boards like CBSE, biometric information of children aged 5 to 7 years and 15 to 17 years will be updated so that their Aadhaar records remain up to date according to time.
