The census and caste census which has been awaited in the country for a long time is now going to end. It has been announced when the census process will start. The central government has set a program to start counting from March 1, 2027, for census and caste census. The government has completed preparations for this. However, it will not start from March 1, 2027, in the whole country. There is a preparation to start it first in the states with mountainous and special geographical conditions such as Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal and Uttarakhand. Let us tell you why the census will start first in these states.

Why will the census start first

It has been decided to conduct the census first in view of the weather difficulties and inaccessible areas in these four states / union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal and Uttarakhand. The process of census in these states will start from October 1, 2026. In the press release issued by PIB, it has been told that when the last census was conducted in the year 2011, even then the census was conducted in these states between 11 and 30 September 2010, whose reference time was midnight of 1 October 2010.

What is special in this census this time

The census that will be conducted this time is going to be different from the rest of the census. This time the caste based census which was being demanded for a long time has been implemented. For some time, the opposition parties were demanding caste census, which was approved by the central government this time in April. In all the censuses conducted before this, only religion and class were asked. Apart from this, General, OBC, SC and ST were counted. This time, the census will collect data digitally, a special portal has been created for this.
