CBSE will now conduct class 10 board exams twice a year, this change has been made in the rules, so know immediately

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to conduct two board exams for class 10 from the 2026 academic year. According to news agency PTI, the board has approved the draft norms for conducting class-10 board exams twice a year from 2026. The draft norms will now be put in the public domain and stakeholders can give their feedback by March 9, after which the policy will be finalised.
According to the official release, the biennial examinations will begin in 2026, the first of which is scheduled from February 17 to March 6.
As per the draft norms, the first phase of the examinations will be held from February 17 to March 6, while the second phase will be held from May 5 to 20.
Key points of the proposed plan
1. Class 10 and Class 12 examinations will begin on the first Tuesday after February 15.
2. It is expected that around 26.60 lakh students in class 10 and around 20 lakh students in class 12 will appear in the exams in 2026.
3. Both exams will be conducted on complete current syllabus and text-books.
4. Except Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Hindi, English, the remaining subjects are grouped as follows:-
i) Regional and Foreign Languages in one group
ii) Remaining subjects in one group
5. The exams of Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Hindi and English will be conducted on a fixed day as at present.
6. The exams of Regional and Foreign Languages will be conducted once on the same day.
7. The exams of remaining subjects will be conducted 2 to 3 times in 2 or 3 days depending on the choice of the students.
