Candidature of Two Candidates Cancelled in Bihar Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Recruitment; Here’s the Full Story
BPSSC SI Recruitment: The candidature of two candidates has been cancelled due to irregularities in the preliminary examination for the Bihar Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment. An investigation by the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) revealed that question papers were leaked (sent out) from an examination centre in Purnia.
BPSSC SI Recruitment: The Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) has cancelled the candidature of two individuals—Rupesh Kumar and Naresh Kumar—in connection with the SI recruitment examination. Both are accused of engaging in malpractice during the preliminary examination. The Commission took this decision following an investigation by the Economic Offences Unit (EOU), Patna, which uncovered their involvement.
The Commission announced this via a notice issued under Advertisement No. 05/2025. Acting on the recommendation of the EOU, both candidates have been removed from the recruitment process.
Question Papers Leaked from Purnia Examination Centre
An investigation by the EOU’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) revealed that on January 18, 2026, question papers were leaked from an examination centre in Purnia during both shifts. It is alleged that the papers were solved by an external group (a 'solver gang'), and the answers were subsequently provided to the candidates. The names of Rupesh Kumar and Naresh Kumar emerged during the investigation. Both had qualified for the preliminary examination, and Rupesh Kumar had also cleared the main examination.
Role of Centre Superintendent and Staff Also Under Scrutiny
The roles of the Centre Superintendent, Md. Muzaffar Alam, and office staff member Vivek Kumar are also under investigation. According to the SIT, the original seating plan at the examination centre was altered. Furthermore, there are allegations regarding the creation of a secondary (fake) seating plan, the destruction of evidence, and the submission of false information to the Commission.
The investigation further revealed that candidates were seated in the examination hall in violation of established rules. Irregularities were also found in the assignment of invigilators and the signing of duty charts.
BPSSC SI Recruitment: CCTV Footage and Documents Examined
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) examined CCTV footage from the examination center, along with seating plans and duty charts. Center superintendents and invigilators were questioned, and their written statements were recorded. Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, an FIR has been registered at the Economic Offenses Police Station. The charges include relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Bihar Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
No Evidence of Paper Leak Before the Exam Commenced
According to the Economic Offenses Unit (EOU), the investigation so far has yielded no evidence to suggest that the question paper was leaked before the examination began. The investigation revealed that the question papers were taken out of the center only after the examination had already commenced.
Mains Examination Already Cancelled
An SIT was constituted on September 2, 2026, to investigate irregularities in both the preliminary and mains examinations for the Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment. An investigation report concerning the mains examination was previously submitted to the Commission, following which the mains examination was cancelled. Currently, an investigation into the irregularities in the preliminary examination is underway.
In a formal notice, the Commission has stated that if the names of any other candidates emerge during the course of further investigation, action will be taken against them in accordance with the rules.
