Canceling Counter Train Tickets: In today's digital age, canceling counter tickets has become easy, as passengers can now cancel them from the comfort of their homes using online portals or helpline numbers.

Canceling Counter Train Tickets: Nowadays, people prefer doing everything online from home, which saves both time and effort. While most people handle tasks like shopping and ticket booking online, many still purchase tickets from railway station reservation counters (PRS).

Canceling a ticket booked via the IRCTC website or mobile app is very easy, but canceling a ticket purchased at a counter used to be a hassle, as it typically required a visit to the PRS counter. However, did you know you can cancel it from home?

How to cancel counter tickets online?

Passengers do not need to visit a PRS counter to cancel waiting-list or confirmed tickets purchased at the counter; you can easily cancel them from home. To cancel using the IRCTC website, follow these steps:

  • First, visit the IRCTC counter ticket cancellation portal.
  • Next, enter your PNR number, train number, and the captcha code.
  • Then, verify the OTP received on your registered mobile number.
  • After that, click on the 'Cancel Ticket' option.
  • Once the ticket is canceled, you will receive all refund details via SMS.

You can also cancel tickets using this method:

If you do not wish to cancel the ticket via the website or a call, you can also do so via SMS.

  • To do this, type "CANCEL," the PNR number, and the train number in an SMS and send it to 139.
  • You will then receive an OTP, which must be verified.
  • The ticket will be canceled only after verification.

Cancel tickets from the comfort of your home:

You can use the railway helpline number 139 for this purpose. By following this simple method, you can cancel your ticket. To cancel a counter ticket, first call 139.
Then, select the refund and cancellation options from the choices provided during the call.
An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number.
Verify it immediately; your ticket will then be cancelled.

How do you get the refund?

  • While you can cancel the ticket from the comfort of your home,
  • you must visit a railway station's PRS counter to claim the refund.
  • At the counter, you will need to present the ticket and the cancellation message.
  • Keep in mind that you must visit the PRS counter within the stipulated timeframe to claim the refund.
  • Therefore, pay close attention to the timing; the refund will only be issued if this is adhered to.
  • Withdrawing PF is now easier! Employees can withdraw up to 75% of the amount even without a specific reason.

Know the important time limits.

If you cancel a confirmed ticket 8 hours or less before the train's scheduled departure, no refund will be provided. Similarly, RAC and waitlisted tickets must be cancelled at least half an hour before departure to be eligible for a refund. There is a specific timeframe for ticket cancellation that must be strictly followed to ensure there are no issues in receiving the refund.
