In such a situation, the two most popular options are – CA (Chartered Accountant) and CS (Company Secretary). Both these courses are considered very attractive in terms of career and earnings. But many students are confused about their full form and field of work.
CA vs CS: What are these two courses?
The full form of CA is Chartered Accountant, while the full form of CS is Company Secretary. Chartered Accountant course is conducted under ICAI i.e. Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. At the same time, the Company Secretary course is conducted by ICSI i.e. Institute of Company Secretaries of India. Both courses come under the category of professional degrees and have different exam structure and syllabus.
Benefits of doing CA or CS
The CA course mainly focuses on subjects like accounting, taxation, auditing and financial reporting. On the other hand, things like company law, corporate governance, secretarial practice and corporate planning are taught in the CS course. If you are interested in legal aspects and company management, then CS may be a better option for you.
How many years of course?
It usually takes 4.5 to 5 years to complete the CA course. It has three levels: Foundation, Intermediate and Final. Whereas CS course can be completed in 2.5 to 3 years, in which there are two main levels executive and professional.
Which earns more?
As far as salary is concerned, the average starting salary of a fresh CA is Rs 6-8 lakh per annum. Whereas a fresh CS's salary is between Rs 4-6 lakh. There is a lot of scope for growth in both professions with experience. However, generally the salary and demand of CA is considered to be higher than CS.
