If you're looking for a business that thrives even during economic downturns, provides daily cash flow, and generates income for years, a petrol pump is considered a golden opportunity. However, this business isn't accessible to everyone. The country's major oil companies issue a limited number of petrol pump licenses, and the process is quite stringent. Many people are also scammed in the name of obtaining a petrol pump license and receiving business advice on opening a petrol pump. Porus Kumar Singh, a successful petrol pump owner from Begusarai, Bihar, who owns several petrol pumps, has shared complete information.

Porus Kumar Singh explains that government oil companies like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum periodically release advertisements for opening petrol pumps in different areas. These advertisements are published in newspapers, on the companies' websites, and on government portals. If an advertisement is released for your area and you are eligible for that location, you need to apply according to the advertisement. This requires information about the land, investment capacity, and your personal details.

Interview and Selection Process
After the application is accepted, the oil company conducts an interview. This assesses your financial situation, business acumen, land validity, and management skills. After the interview and document verification, if found eligible, you are granted permission to open a petrol pump.

How much does it cost to open a petrol pump?
According to Porus Kumar Singh, opening a petrol pump today requires an investment of approximately ₹2 crore or more. This includes land, tanks, machinery, sheds, office, license, and other infrastructure.

If you already own the land, the cost might be slightly lower, but acquiring land on a highway or in a busy area increases the investment.

How is the income generated?
The petrol pump owner receives a dealer commission from the oil companies on every liter of petrol and diesel sold. This commission is fixed. If the pump is located on a highway or a busy road and sells 10 to 15 tankers of fuel daily, the petrol pump never runs at a loss. Porus Kumar Singh says that a person running a petrol pump in the right location earns a stable and reliable income for years.

Why is a petrol pump considered a safe business?
Because vehicles never stop, travel continues, and the demand for fuel never ends. This is why a petrol pump is a business that generates income in all seasons. If you have the right land, investment, and patience, a petrol pump can prove to be the most robust business of your life.
