The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor is the country’s first bullet train project. A total of 12 stations are being constructed along this approximately 508-kilometer-long corridor, connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad. According to the Ministry of Railways, the target is to commence operations by August 15, 2027. The bullet train will be operated using a state-of-the-art automated system. However, the pilot on board will be responsible for following instructions from the control center, monitoring the system, and making immediate decisions in the event of an emergency.
How can one become a bullet train driver in India?
Bullet train services have not yet commenced in India; therefore, a specific recruitment process for drivers has not yet been initiated. However, recruitment for technical and operational staff associated with the high-speed rail project is currently being conducted through the NHSRCL. In the future, experienced personnel from the railway, metro, or high-speed rail sectors could be trained as pilots through specialized training programs to operate the bullet trains. Employees with prior experience in railway operations will undergo special training in Japan for this purpose, as India’s first high-speed rail project is based on Japanese technology. Recruitment for 224 Posts at NHSRCL
The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has initiated a recruitment drive for a total of 224 positions. These include 209 non-executive and 15 executive posts. The recruitment covers roles such as Junior Engineer, Station/Train Manager, Depot and Operation Controller, and positions related to Information Technology and Security. Junior Engineer posts are available in departments including Civil, Track, Electrical, Signaling & Telecom, Rolling Stock, and Automatic Fare Collection.
Who Can Apply for These Posts?
According to the recruitment notification, the candidate’s age must not exceed 45 years as of May 31, 2026. Candidates are required to possess a 3-year diploma or a BE/B.Tech degree relevant to the specific post. Additionally, a minimum of 3 years of experience in the operations and maintenance sector of railways, metro systems, or regional rapid transit systems is mandatory. Selection will be based on a Computer-Based Test (CBT), followed by document verification and a medical examination.
